Israeli forces stormed the central West Bank town of Birzeit north of Ramallah overnight on Sunday, targeting two female students and detaining at least 24 other Palestinians during raids across the occupied Palestinian territory.
Locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces detained a female engineering student, Alaa Assaf, from Birzeit University. Israeli forces stormed the Assaf family home, before taking Alaa to an unknown location.
Meanwhile, Israeli authorities delivered a military order to another female student from Birzeit University, Asmaa Qadah, and banned her from entering the city of Ramallah and the town of Birzeit for five months. Israeli forces had only recently released Qadah after she served several months in custody.
Also in the district of Ramallah, Israeli forces detained al-Qassam Khalid Sheik, Wisam Adib Abu Khalil, and Rami Audah from Qalandiya refugee camp, as well as Basil Hassan Zayud at the Qalandiya checkpoint, locals said.
Another fourteen students were detained from the West Bank, among other areas. An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed nine detentions were made on Sunday night. Most were detained for suspected “illegal activities” and some for being alleged “Hamas operatives,” she added.
Around 7,000 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons, according to prisoners’ rights group, Addameer. Israeli forces carried out an average of 92 raids per week since the start of this year according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
